GREENLAND is incredibly beautiful, no matter which season you choose to visit. Autumn is calm and peaceful after a short, hectic summer, so you will have it more or less for yourself – together with the locals.

Autumn is also a time when nature reveals all its different sides—from stunning sunny days that dress the mountains in shades of golden brown, a must-see, to forceful autumn storms that mesmerize you with their harsh beauty but also demand proper clothing.

Autumn in Greenland is truly enchanting, and it has become one of the most cherished seasons for travelers. The Arctic landscape bursts into a kaleidoscope of reds, yellows, and browns, all set against the deep, tranquil blue of the fjords.

The shrubs glisten with delicate frost in the crisp mornings, and the air carries an unmistakable freshness. It’s also the time when blackberries reach their peak, and the sight of locals stooping to gather these wild treasures in the mountains adds to the season’s charms. The Inuit begin their hunting season, pursuing reindeer and musk ox, while fishermen set sail once more.

Bathed in the soft glow of autumn sunlight, we head out to marvel at the towering icebergs. As night descends, the sky is painted with the ethereal dance of the Northern Lights, casting an otherworldly glow across the landscape, adding an air of mystery to the evening.

Greenland is one of the best places in the world to spot the Northern Lights.

It has an unparalleled advantage over other Nordic countries in viewing the Northern Lights because of its excellent geographical location, where the Northern Lights belt covers more than 2/3 of Greenland’s territory.

The towns you will visit are in the very center of the Northern Lights belt. The chances of spotting the northern lights are relatively high. You can see the Northern Lights in different forms! During your stay, you can go to various locations to photograph the dazzling Northern Lights!

Advantages of viewing the Northern Lights in Greenland

  • Good geographical location – the northern lights belt covers more than 2/3 of Greenland’s territory, a vast area from latitude 60 degrees north to latitude 72 degrees north
  • Stable weather – In central Greenland, the weather is comparably stable. There are 300 cloudless days a year, and the sky is clear most of the time, which significantly increases the chance of viewing the Northern Lights
  • Low light pollution – Greenland is sparsely populated and has very low light pollution. No matter where you are, you can see the Northern Lights just by looking up at the sky.

NUUK is the capital of Greenland. It is the northernmost capital of the country and has a population of approximately 19,000. Over the past 20 years, it has developed into Greenland’s cultural, commercial, and educational center. The city features Nordic-style postmodern architecture while preserving many historic building complexes.

Traffic lights, buses, and many cars contrast with life in Greenland’s smaller towns and villages, but the stunning scenery and endless horizon automatically put city life into perspective. In Nuuk, there are experiences for the nature lover, the culturally and historically interested, and those who love the vibrant life of a capital city.

ILULISSAT is the most popular tourist location in Greenland and is the only town in the world surrounded by an Ice fjord.

It is the third-largest town, with a population of about 4,500. It is located 250 km north of the Arctic Circle, on the edge of the magnificent Ilulissat Ice Fjord.

The Ilulissat Icefjord is 70 kilometers long and extends to the sea near the town. Countless huge icebergs are stacked here, and the scenery is shockingly beautiful. In 2004, the Ilulissat Icefjord was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
